Nintendo today confirmed that a 5th generation is indeed in the works, and that it will be released in Japan this year. Brand new region, brand new pokemon, brand new concepts. Quote: HeartGold and SoulSilver are still the rage amongst Pokemon gamers, but Nintendo isn't letting Pikachu and crew rest. In Japan today, the company announced that a new main entry in the series is being developed for DS. By "main entry," we mean a game in the line of titles that includes Red & Green, Gold & Silver, Ruby & Saphire, and Diamond & Pearl. The new game is set for Japanese release this year, meaning it will come four years after Diamond & Pearl's original release over there. Nintendo did not share details on the game today, only hinting that it would have new Pokemon, take place in a new region, and feature new gameplay concepts. But with the announcement out of the way, and with a 2010 Japanese release, expect to start hearing details shortly. I'm excited. It's been 4 years since Diamond and Pearl. 4 fucking years. I can remember walking into the gym as a freshman in high school and teaming up with a friend to battle seniors. What do you guys think?

Literally. So, i'm not really excited. Diamond and pearl were one of the reasons I stopped playing pokemon.

The whole concept is amazing - and why the hell should they stop? There's a lot more animals and mythological out there- why shouldn't they make a pokemon based off of each one? The whole "gotta catch em all" process is addictive, and it'll keep selling for as long as Nintendo exists. It's just a matter of fine tuning the game - making it a bit longer and jacking up the already amazing online play.

I've been playing Pokemon games since I was 8 and I'm not about to stop anytime soon. Ruby/Sapphire was a little disappointing for me (too much ocean and the new pokemon were mostly meh), but Diamond/Pearl was much better. Can't wait to see what the new region has in store. My (perhaps unrealistic) hopes for this game: Only one legendary (not another "god" pokemon) Return of Team Rocket Edited by Picklegod, Jan 29 2010, 04:07 PM.

I remember I had Pearl for over a year before finding out about Heatran and was life, WTF why did they even make this one? And Rocket seemed so much more sinister than galactic or magma or aqua ever did. I always love seeing old anime characters make appearances too, so if you had to battle Giovoni or the rockets, I'd be happy.

I can't wait for Soul Silver (It looks amazing!), but I just don't think we need yet another generation. All great franchises know when to stop - and I really don't want to see this one ruined. Like they did with Munchlax, Mime Jr., Bonsly, and Lucario in movies 7 and 8. And also, we'll probably see a new Pokemon in that new Ranger game, Tracks of Light (like we saw Munchlax in PMD1 and Bonsly in Pokemon XD). Nintendo always has to give us appetizers. ;D D/P is when I first got into competitive battling (an entire world I never would have imagined o.o), and I have fond memories of learning all the Japanese names when that huge sprite leak happened, then not liking the English names when they were announced, then loving them, and just generally getting involved with the Pokemon community. And that's when I got involved with Pokebeach, the best Pokemon/anyother forum on the internet. <3 (Yeah it's much better than this slutty place :O) Needless to say, I can't wait :D

I haven't done it in about a year and a half, so expect extreme levels of rustiness. IVbreeding made me so stressed that I had to quit. Also, I only have a little over one team made, and they're mostly OU (what everyone starts with, though I didn't do anything so cliche like Garchomp or T-Tar, mind you), so... I had a bunch of more creative ones planned, but never got around to it. Maybe when HG/SS come out I'll get back into it, and we'll battle more then?

I'll still need time to put my team together, as my Diamond game kinda got screwed It doesn't have to be this weekend, but whenever you can we should. Also, I joined poke beach, too. I'll look around a bit more in a little while. I need to go out and rebuild my team. OU, then?

Though, I've been inactive for almost two years, though, but all the veteran members remember me. None of the new generation of members know me, it's kind of sad. I was one of the "old gang" members back in PB's golden days (2006-2007), even though I was a total n00b. Some of my posts from way back when are embarrasing, but I had a great time, and was really involved in the community. Nostalgia.... D: Now it's grown so much, it seems harder to get involved, but w/e. I still love the place. Oh, I'm in Central time zone, by the way. And it doesn't have to be just OU. Many BL Pokemon can do very well in the OU environment, provided you have a good team, so just whatever you want to use. I'll get my team ready too.

Binary Solo Posts: 13,893 Group: Super Moderator Member #794 Joined: July 28, 2005 Gender Male	This sounds pretty sweet, though what I think they really need to do is get rid of the sprite based visual style and maybe turn the game full 3D. I know it's a little too ambitious for Nintendo to do that, but I'm getting kinda sick of these damn sprites with terrible low quality sound effects. I really hope they add evolutions to some of the old Pokemon, like Stantler. What a piece of shit that Pokemon is. Maybe if it had an evolution, it might be a little more respectable. The same can be said with a couple of other Pokemon, like Corsola, Plusle & Minun, Pachirisu, and Carnivine. They all suck and need an evolution. Imagine two Pokemon games in one year? That'd be awesome, though likely the new game will come out in 2010 in Japan, but in 2011 here in North America.
